Black rice is a healthy alternative to white.

Who does not like rice? I have not yet met such people)) So my eldest son is ready to eat rice three times a day! However, I try to replace white rice with black, or wild. In China, it was also called forbidden: only the nobility had the right to eat this rice, for the simple people it was forbidden.

There are many varieties of rice grains! For most of us, traditional white rice seems habitual. And if other varieties of this cereal – brown, brown, basmati – are even remotely known to us, then black or wild rice most often causes surprise and genuine interest, since it is not so often found in local stores.

Black rice is cultivated in the US state of Minnesota – it is the largest global exporter of this product. Cultivation and harvesting of this annual plant requires a lot of labor costs.

Cultivated black rice grains can have chocolate brown or coal black (hue depends on maturity and grain processing), and in shape they are thin and oblong.

Black rice is cooked much longer than the usual white – from 40 minutes to an hour, during which time it takes on a purple hue. Most often it is used as a side dish or stuffing, added to soup, snacks, salads, desserts.

Wild rice differs from white in its composition with its exotic sweetish flavor, light nutty aroma and, most importantly, its composition, I want to tell you about its beneficial properties.

Black rice contains:

Some Tips for Cooking Black Rice

First, before boiling wild rice, it is desirable to soak the night in cool water. In the morning, pour out the water, pour the rice into boiling water (1: 3 ratio), bring to a boil and boil on low heat for at least 45-60 minutes. The finished rice will increase three to four times. After that, reduce the fire and let it stand for about 15 minutes without stirring.

Secondly, after boiling black rice, the white pan can stain. Consider this fact when choosing dishes.

Thirdly, wild rice goes well with sesame, tamari (soy sauce), nuts and legumes, serves as an ideal side dish for vegetables, meat, fish, or a base for snacks and salad.
